Frequently Asked Questions

We have visited several squadrons now at RAF Honington to talk about the course. These are some of the questions we have frequently asked:

I can’t make all the dates on this course, will there be another one in January?

Yes. We hope to run several courses in the new year. If you are interested in being on one of them please let the Padre know so that we can run a course on dates that are convenient for people. We are also thinking about running a course on Saturdays, but need to find out whether there is interest. If a Saturday would work better for you please let us know.

Is this marriage counselling therapy?

No. The course is designed to give you tools to improve your relationship – even if it’s already very good. You won’t have to disclose any personal information about your relationship with the group. The focus is on you and your partner talking and learning useful skills together.

Do I need to have problems in my relationship to come on the course?

No. The course is for good for any relationship whether it’s perfect or has struggles. If your relationship is really in chaos you should probably talk to the welfare team and look at getting more individual help from someone like Relate.

My wife lives 150 miles away - can we do the course at an airbase closer to her?

Not yet. RAF Honington is our pilot course in the armed forces. Our hope is that if it goes well here we will be able to spread the course to other bases.

Who is doing the childcare?

The same people who run the nursery on base.

Am I guaranteed time off work?

Yes. The Station Commander has said that the course will be counted as duty for anyone who
wants to do it.

Can I do the course on my own?

No. Sorry. The course is designed for couples to do together, as the focus is on improving that relationship.

So tell me again how it works.

It's a course run over 3 consecutive wednesdays for you and your partner. It will be a really enjoyable, no-embarrasing time. You get the days off work (but tell your boss), free lunch, free childcare (for non-school age kids) and the chance to improve your relationship!
