Family relationships are probably the most important factor in reducing re-offending. Large scale tracking studies in both England and the USA have found that strong relationships reduce re-offending and that, if a relationship breaks down, an offender is more likely to re-offend. The Ministry of Justice has confirmed that family relationships both reduce re-offending and increase the chances of a prisoner finding accommodation and employment.
